Ángel Guzmán, (Utuado, P.R., 1959)
Painter, graphic artist and draftsman. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Arts from the Puerto Rico School of Plastic Arts. His teachers were Fran Cervoni, José Alicea, and Julio Suárez. He has participated as a printer in engraving workshops with artists Antonio Martorell, María E. Somoza, and Julio Suárez. In 1991 he received First Prize in Painting and an Honorable Mention in Engraving and Drawing at the Ateneo Puertorriqueño’s Art Competition, and in 1994 Second Place in Painting from the Alfonso Arana Foundation, among others awards and recognitions. The Institute of Puerto Rican Culture selected him as guest artist for the Sample of National Art in San Juan in 2001. He works in oil painting, engraving, and currently in wood sculpting. His works deal mostly with social issues.
